The British Prince was situated at 49 Bromley
Street.
This small, back-street
grade-II listed
pub was established by 1851 and closed in around
2005 or 2006, becoming a private home. During the 1980s and 1990s at least
it was a Taylor Walker Brewery pub. |

Early C19, but facade partly rebuilt,
probably as a result of war damage. Brick with coped parapet. 2 storeys, 3
unbarred sash windows. Ground floor has panelled wooden public house front
under entablature with modillion cornice. Grade II as building adjoins No 47
and has a corner position at the junction of Bromley Street and Chudleigh

My cousin Reggie Williams and his wife’s family ran and lived in this
pub.He was the BEST piano player ever,it was a party as soon as he sat
down at the piano ! No sheets of music,if you asked for a song he could
play it!
Oh how I missed those days! those were the things I missed most, family
and the “ good old “ Knees up Mother Brown” songs! The Best of times. I
was born in Bermondsey in 1939,in St. Olaves hospital. |
