Hollands was situated at 9 Exmouth Street. This pub was established in 1843 as the Exmouth Arms.  The licence was held by the Holland family from an early stage, certainly by 1891, and that family remained throughout most of the twentieth century.  It had long been nicknamed ‘Hollands’ and the pub name was formally changed to Hollands in 1974.  By 1986 it had received a Grade II listing with the citation"Original interior with boarded ceiling, pine panelling and settles. Engraved and painted glasswork. Elaborate fireplaces and overmantles. Listed for Interior".  It was well-known in the 1980s and 1990s as a treasure trove of beautiful glasswork and brewery mirrors, one of the last of its kind in London.  Down the years it seems to have sold the beers of several different breweries, including Allsopp’s in the early twentieth century and Charrington’s by the 1980s.  It was then acquired from the Holland family by Young’s of Wandsworth in 1991 (at the time it was said that this was after 148 years of ownership by the Holland family).  Sadly in 1997 Young’s put the pub up for sale and sadder still it became a target for vandals and arsonists – it is not known what happened to the interior – and the pub never reopened.  After a spell of semi-dereliction, the former pub was restored and is now a private residence.
I visited Hollands in the early/mid 90’s with a friend whose mother lived locally , in Stepney . As I waited to be served at the bar , a man came up to me and asked me where I was from , I replied , “ Somerset “ , he then said “ We are all rogues around here , but we look after our women and children , take it easy !” he then left ,and I joined my friend. I guess he thought I might be plain clothes police ?
