Alfreds Head

The Alfreds Head was situated at 49 Gold Street. This pub was present by 1849. It was closed in 1940 following air raid damage. Now demolished along with the street, sometime after WWII.

My parents and my brother moved into the Alfreds Head early 1950’s we believe. I was born in 1954 while we were at the pub. We moved from the pub about 1957 as they were pulling the pub down with all the houses in the neighbourhood to build a new high rise estate. We moved to another pub in Bishopsgate called the Primrose and lived there for 19 years. Unfortunately that pub has gone as well.
