The Bell was situated at 123 Wapping High Street, by the River Thames. Now demolished and replaced by Falconet Court. In the 1762 the naval officer Captain Cook was billeted there and he married the landlord's daughter, Elizabeth Batts. The pub appears to have closed and been demolished some time in the 20th century. Possibly it didn't survive World War II. The reason for this and other pubs in the area being called the Bell was that there was a famous Bell Foundry in Whitechapel. The Bell was renamed the Steam Ferry about 1891 but reverted to the Bell by 1910.
