The Prince Albert was was situated at
83 Clark Street. An original Mann Crossman & Paulin It ended up a Watney Mann establishment before closing down during
the late 1960's redevelopment of Stepney. My parents Elsie and Tom Follon
ran the pub (nicknamed Boustards after a previous owner) for 10yrs from 1958
to 1968. Whereas other Stepney pubs such as the 'Beggars' catered mainly for
the youngsters, our pub catered for the elder generation - who, in the years
after the war ended, really let their hair down.
Although we had a resident pianist Friday - Sunday, everyday was a knees-up
in our pub with my Dad taking over at the piano. The 'Prince Albert' could
best be remembered by visualising a Disney cartoon i.e. walls reverberating
with song + dance + laughter. |
