Duke Of Wellington

The Duke Of Wellington was situated at 52 Cyprus Street. This pub was built in 1850 or 1851 as the centrepiece of the development of Cyprus Street.  It was a Watney’s Brewery pub and in the 1850s held a licence for music and dancing.  Both of my grandparents on my father’s side lived in Cyprus Street in the 1920s before they were married, so I feel it likely they must have used this pub.  Unfortunately I never got around to visiting it myself before it closed in 2005.  It has now been nicely restored for residential use.
