Flying Scud
 |
|
|
The Flying Scud was situated at 137
Hackney Green Road. Now demolished. |
|
This was a Truman’s Brewery pub,
present by 1872. In the 1980s and early 1990s it was known for live heavy
metal music, alternating with strippers. The pub closed in July 1994 and
stood looking picturesquely derelict for 15 years until it was demolished in
2009. One piece of graffiti on the closed pub read “This
is Not a Local”, in Banksy-esque style. |

The Flying Scud was used as part of a film set
in 1997 or thereabouts. I can't recall the film now but it was the
centrepiece of a riot. Filming closed Hackney Road for the day. |
