My father’s family lived at 13 Arline
St prior to & during WW2, the house and adjacent buildings including the pub
was destroyed by an enemy bomb on night of 10th May 1941 the last & most
intense night of the London Blitz proper. My father & 3 of his siblings were
evacuees & outside London at the time but his mother father & older sister
were all killed along with an uncle who was in the house. Eliza Carter (my
grandmother who was 36) was pregnant believed to be with twins at the time.
My fathers sister Kathleen (16) was at home to help after the birth. I have
read that occupants of the pub survived unscathed. |
