The Albion was situated at 25 St Paul's Way.
This was a Watney’s Brewery pub, established by 1881 and closed in around
1990. It hung around in a derelict state until 2005 when it was
demolished. Apparently the pub had closed shortly after the body of a
murder victim was found in the back yard. A block of flats was built on the
site of the pub. |

My grandmother Esther Everett owned this pub
from 1960 until 1977 when my mother Irene Saunders took over until 1990. It
was in our family for 30 years. |

An important slice of legal history was
created, courtesy of a practical joke gone wrong, in the Albion pub on 9
April 1896. The tort known as ‘the rule in Wilkinson v Downton ’ was created
in the 1897 case of the same name, and is also known as the tort of
‘intentional infliction of emotional distress’ |

My Aunt Esther Everett and her husband Tommy, were the publicans. Esther
retired due to ill health, the comment about a murder victim in the back
garden isn't true I don't know where that story came from. We had some
happy times, it was a lovely pub. Because it was empty for so long it
got really run down. All the locals used the pub, but when the houses
around the pub were pulled down, they lost a lot of their custom. |

Barbara Goodbody is right there was
no murder. A chap by the name of White was found knocked out in the yard
at the back of the pub I had been in the pub just before this happend at
about four in the morning I left. I know how it came about and why I had
to go to court . By the way I did briefly use the pub in the late 60s
when i was courting . |
