Queen Victoria

The Queen Victoria was situated at 1 Gillender Street. This was a Charrington’s Brewery pub, as can still be seen by surviving signage.  It was here by 1869 and in 1983 was described as being a proper “Cockney knees-up pub”.  By this time it had become a free house, and it closed in 2001 – probably a victim of its rather unfortunate modern location where it had become the sole property on the wrong side of a busy dual carriageway.  Now in private residential use, it still has the Charringtons insignia on the wall.
