The Rising Sun was situated at 1 Portia
Road.
This pub has now been demolished. |

It was one of my fathers favourite pubs. I
still have a gold plated darts medal he won with the name of the pub set in
blue enamel. Heading home from Cubs after an evening of activities in local
dusty hall, my brother and I would push open the door to the smoke filled
bar with our tongues hanging out and get our fathers attention for a drink.
He would bring two small bottles of lemonade out to us which we sucked dry
through waxed paper straws before he could rejoin his mates at the bar. He
wasn't having too much of this. After a few weeks he changed pubs on Cub
night as lemonade was eating into his beer money. |
