The Victoria Hotel was situated at 171 Burdett Road.
My grandmother, Alice Maud Wells, and parents Charles William Miller and
Lilian Beatrice Miller, were tenants here from 1938 until its closure in
1972. My father died in 1964 and my grandmother in 1965. My mother continued
to run the business until its closure.
The Victoria Hotel was used for the pub scenes in the film "10 Rillington
Place", back in May/June 1970, just prior to the pub's demolition. The film
starred Richard Attenborough, John Hurt and Judy Geeson. The film company
took some internal photos prior to shooting and put crosses on items which
would have had to be removed when filming, to take the images back to the
1953 era, when the story took place. Of particular note is the woodwork,
typical of the craftsmanship of the Victorian era. The pub was built in
1881. |
