The Cricketers Hotel was situated at
181 Clarence Road.
This Watney’s Brewery pub was present
by 1872. A 1915 advertisement says it has a ‘comfortable billiards saloon
with two tables”. At this time it was also the HQ of the Cricketers Cricket
Club. It traded for a while in the 1990s as Shamps,
reverting to the Cricketers name in 2001. In June 2008, the Clapton Pond
Neighbourhood Action Group raised concerns
about the licence at this pub which they said had become a centre for
drug-dealing and was linked to a number of violent incidents. The pub was
subsequently closed following a police raid in November 2009. |

This pub is now used as a
restaurant. |
