The Castle was situated at 148 Kingsland High
Street.
This was a Courage Brewery pub, established by 1872. It became a free house
in the late-1990s, before closing in
2002 and undergoing conversion to restaurant use. |

I was in a band called Stone Free, changed to
Evil Ways and changed again to Urchin.
The original band Stone Free was made up of myself - John Hoye bass, Adrian
Smith guitar and vocals and Dave Murray guitar. We used to rehearse in my
school hall, Cardinal Pole which was on Kenworthy Road E9. Adrian and Dave
went on to be in Iron Maiden and still are today.
When we were called Evil Ways the band was made up of me - John Hoye on
Bass, Adrian Smith guitar and vocals, Maurice Coyne guitar, Barry Tyler
drums,(Adrian went on to be in Iron Maiden and still is today). We had a
short residency at The Castle either a Friday or Saturday night. |
