The Duke Of Sussex was situated at 151
Haggerston Road. Known as The Overdraught prior to closure. |
|
This pub was present here by 1839 and
in the twentieth century was tied to the Whitbread Brewery. It became a
free house in 2001 and was renamed The Overdraught.
It was closed and boarded-up by 2005. |

Opened in 1839 by my Gt GtGt
Grandfather, William Wallis. He was born in Stamford Baron in 1796. His
father was a cordwainer. He owned the land known as Wallis Gardens, behind
the pub. His establishment was set to profit on the rapid expansion of the
thriving city of London. William Wallis died in 1854. He had retired from
the pub by then. |
