The Deuragon Arms was situated on Shepherds
Lane. This pub has now been demolished and replaced by housing. |

There was a recording made at this pub
back on December 21st 1962. This was originally issued on the 'Pye Golden
Guinea' label under the title 'With Ray Martine'. The 'B' side of the L.P.
was recorded at 'The Establishment' in London's West End around February
1963. This can be heard on 'Spotify' under the title 'East End, West End' by
Ray Martine. Ray was the host of the 1960's T.V. show 'Stars and Garters',
which featured artists such as Al Saxon, Kathy Kirby, and Vince Hill. |

I used to visit The Deuragon Arms in
the 1960s. There was a great band called The Amber World, with go go
dancers, brilliant music. One night Keith Moon visited and left poor old
John's drums in bits. |

We used to play as a group, ‘The
Readygoes’, in the 60’s at the Deuragon. We played on a small stage in the
right hand corner of the pub on the slightly raised platform.
Barney was the manager at the time and I guess it was him who booked The
Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band. They were great. Vivian Stanshall was up front and
very dapper. Legs Larry Smith used to dance on the tables at the front of
the stage and they had a machine that produced a really really loud BANG.
People would throw their drinks all over the place, surprised by the sudden
noise. It was weird.
Sundays were great there. |

I used to drink there around 1978..It was a
favourite haunt on a Sunday lunchtime for a lot of us lads after our
football matches on Hackney Marshes.
There was good entertainment, (either drag or strippers) and a lock in or
"afters" as we called it . It was also great for bands and comedy from the
compare on a Friday or Saturday night. The atmosphere was always fantastic. |

I was an apprentice monotype caster
operator and went to London College of Print at the Elephant and Castle
from 1974 to 1977. One lad in our group was named Wally from Hackney who
worked weekends at the Deuragon. Wondered if anyone remembers him or
where he is now? Would love to meet up again sometime! |
