White Lion

The White Lion was situated at 331 Wick Road. This pub was present before 1825, by which time it was well-renowned as a sporting venue.  Boxing, wrestling and running competitions were promoted on the pub’s extensive grounds until the fields were sold off for development in 1871.  The pub was rebuilt by Truman’s Brewery in the 1930s and the pub closed briefly in 2002.  It re-opened as Genevas and continued more as a nightclub than a pub.  Another name-change came in 2006 to Silver Link, but the venue appeared to close soon afterwards.
Now used as Habbot Bar & Lounge – a bar/restaurant with keg beer and African food.
