I worked in this pub in the early 1970's. The
landlord & his wife were Aubrey & Shirley Meredith. This was the very best
pub in the area at that time.

Drank there every night while we
lived in Middleton Square. Ffond memories of the Meredith's and Tina the
cat. sorry to see its gone |

I worked at The Northern Polytechnic down the street.
Several times a week I'd walk up to EOR for lunch. A couple of pints of
Flower's Keg and a slice of stilton cheese with French bread. Shirley
had 2 Burmese blue cats I think. There was also a ship's bell hanging on
the right hand end of the bar and a hefty fine for ringing it (Half a
crown?) A man with very dark hair rang it almost every day when nobody
was noticing. It was loud. |
