The Metropolitan Tavern was situated at 95 Farringdon Road. Named after the adjacent Metropolitan railway line, this pub was situated at the junction of Farringdon Road and Clerkenwell Road north-west side. It closed in 1989 and was demolished in the late 1980s and replaced by retail unit/apartments. A former Ind Coope pub, then a free house.

Tony Langford 1983/1989 The landlord was a fantastic Jewish named Norman who ran the pub with his son. It was a popular pub with the typesetting companies who were many in the Clerkenwell area, and most lunchtimes you could find most of them taking a well deserved pint.
Mitch Farrow 1981/1984 Magic boozer! Was a typesetter at the time so was in there most afternoons. Well known meeting place for print workers. Always get hooky gear, brilliant. Good old days when people used to talk instead of poxy mobiles!!!!
Francis Charig 1983 I went to the urinal where I found myself standing alone except for Tommy Cooper at the next cubicle. This led me to tell people that I had been taking the piss with Tommy Cooper, which was technically true. Slightly embellished was me saying that he struggled for a long time to urinate but when it did finally happen, it happened just like that.
