White Horse

The White Horse was situated at 1 Little Britain.

I worked across St. Martin Le Grand, a short distance from the pub from 1965 to 1967 at Falcon House, an overseas telegraph office. I remember one night shift when my ‘dinner’ break was at midnight someone suggested we go for a pint at the White Horse. In those days such things just didn’t happen but we went to the pub to find it quite full and everyone acting as though it was during normal opening hours. The first thing to catch the eye was the fact that two uniformed City policemen were playing darts at one end of the bar, one I believe was the tallest police officer in the City. I guess with them in residence the publican had no fear for his licence.
