The Pye Inn was situated on Houndsditch.
A mid-16th century map shows this pub at the junction of Houndsditch and
Bishopsgate, north side, opposite the Church of St. Botolph Bishopsgate and
just to the north of today's Heron Tower. Pye is an archaic abbreviation for
Magpie. This pub was later known as the Dolphin Inn. Long demolished. |

It’s my understanding that the pub belonged to
the father of Edward Alleyn and this is the site where he was born in 1566.
Edwrd Alleyn went on to become one of Shakespeare lead actors and was the
founder of Dulwich College School. |
