Swan & Pyramids

The Swan & Pyramids was situated at 975 High Road.  This pub was known as The Swan until 1891 and was rebuilt in the 1960s/70s. It is now used as the Safari Bar.

The pub dates from at least as early as 1906, because in the winter of that year Hampstead Harriers moved their winter headquarters from the Green Man at Finchley to the Swan & Pyramids at North Finchley. on Boxing Day 1907 they ran a cross country relay from there, the first cross country relay race in Britain, the previous year they ran a road relay, which was also the first road relay in Britain. in 1907 five teams of three men ran around two miles each, starting and finishing at the Swan & Pyramids.
