Flower Pot

The Flower Pot was situated at 19 St Anns Road.  It was such a novel design - Literally looked like a flower pot from the outside. The outside entrance was a stairway that took you to the top floor entrance. There was a bar upstairs and an inside stairway that took you down to the downstairs bar. Demolished around mid 1980s.

I was a member of a band who played on many occasions here in the mid/late 1950"s. We won a big North London talent competition held here around 1958. A very large and unusually designed pub I re-call .

I remember going to the Flower Pot pub when I was 19 in about 1971. I lived in a village called Barkway in North Herts. I have no recollection of how we found it but the experience has never left me. Being a young tyke I was probably driving, and probably over the limit. But we "found" this pub and stayed to watch ( to put it politely as a previous contributor says) the exotic dancers. My recollection was that the lady was a stripteaze artiste. She was fantastically "Statuesque " but sadly it was me to buy the next round. So, I took to the said stairs to buy the drinks. However, there was a programme on the TV " Your life in their hands" behind the bar. I was similarly transfixed by the operation being shown. A rather delicate operation on the eye. I had trouble getting back to the "show"
Many years later I stayed with a work colleague's brother with my work colleague right opposite that pub. A fight ensued one night but was quelled when the police arrived. Never been back and saddened that this pub, like so many others, has been consigned to history. Part of my life has gone forever. Progress eh??

Stephen Rolfe 1973 Customer - introduced by house mate in Jan 1973. Bars on many levels at that time. A small stage with a DJ to one side, 'exotic dancers' performing on the stage. One night I ordered a glass of vermouth, but didn't want ice in it, so threw it away. By a fluke I hit the dancer [not intended] The next night the stage was being showered with ice cubes. Went back in 75 and it was dead. No DJ, no dancers.
