I worked at Harris Lebus in the mid 1960's , just down Ferry Lane from the Eagle. The Eagle had a TV and showed sport, in particular the cricket test matches. I used to go there at lunchtime , buy a glass of beet and 2 cheese rolls and watch the cricket for 45 minutes or so. This was the time that the Victoria Line was being constructed, most of the workforce was Irish. They came into the Eagle at noon , having worked since 6am , consumed a vast number of bottles of Guiness and eaten most of the pubs food. One thing they never understood was the cricket: they argued as to what sport it was : most thought it was an English form of Gaelic Football. The Irish built a dammed fine railway which today is the most reliable line in London
