The Bird In Hand was situated at 115 Park Road. This pub was later used as Bar Apogee.

The publican in the early 1960s was Alex Weir, an ex-professional footballer.

The Bird in hand was my local pub during my sabbatical to England and Europe during 1974 – 1975. I spent many a happy evening with a pint and some wonderful friends made. On a return visit to the UK and Europe in 1983 the Bird in Hand became my local again. Once again I spent some memorable evenings in the above. On Sunday evenings there was a singalong and the only song we knew off by heart was “Waltzing Matilda”, so it was belted out with a gusto. The three young guys in the photo are still my closest friends today and we stay in contact regularly during the year. Best of luck to anyone who remembers those times.

Philip Fisher 1975 & 1983 I lived in Barrington Road with a bunch of other Aussies who were doing the England - Europe sabbatical in the mid 70's.. The Bird in Hand was my local pub and I spent a number of very happy evenings there. Great memories. I do remember Alex Weir the fiery Scot publican and Michael Goode a friend of mind - sadly have lost contact - who was a part time barman.
Brian Wells 1968 - 1972 I probably drank there every night except when I was on nightshift.
