Railway Hotel

The Railway Hotel was situated at 5 Tottenham Lane and is now used as a bar called Funky Brownz. Known as The Wishing Well at time of closure.

I lived opposite the Railway Hotel from 1954 until 1959. I was a regular at the pub along with with a bunch of teenagers from the St Mary’s Youth Fellowship. We would go to there after our meetings at the Parish Hall and enjoy the entertainment provided by the dance band. In 1959, I served behind the bar during the Christmas holiday. Great memories.

Judith Manning 1951/1957 My parents, Harry and Patricia Burr managed The Railway Hotel during the above period. The pub was owned by Stanley Chapman (father of Colin Chapman who developed the Lotus Racing Car). I lived there as a child from 1951/1952 until around 1954/55 when I went to a school in South London.
Reginald Hart 1960s I remember so many things. Mr Hughes was landlord. I recorded much of the musical entertainment - The Music Box Trio and guest artists. I did the publicity and made many tape recordings. In 1960 my bottle of brown ale was less than a shilling at staff rates.
