White Swan

The White Swan was situated at 243 Golders Green Road. This pub closed in 2013 and was demolished in December 2017.

I lived at 11 Lodge road Hendon during the 1950s. My grandfathers sister was landlady of the Swan taking over on the death of her husband. She lived at no 5 Lodge road, my earliest recollections are of sitting in my dads(he was projectionist at the old ABC Golders Green) Austin 7 under the tree with a packet of crisps and tomato juice. I do remember being allowed in the bar on rare occasions when Edith’s son Bunny was landlord I do believe he was landlord until he died but can’t remember when, but my grandfather Harry was pot man there for a time, shame it’s not there any more but last time I went in it was a shadow of it’s former glory.

I lived not far away just off Golders Green Road for a short while at the end of the 1990s and frequented the White Swan occasionally. Seemed a good pub and seemed slightly out of place compared to the surrounding environment. One thing that sticks in the mind was the tame turkey that strutted around the garden and pecked at your feet!
