The Magdala Tavern
was
situated at 2 South Hill Park. This pub closed on 6th September 2014. The
pub name refers to the Battle of Magdala fought between British and
Abyssinian troops in April 1868. The British troops were commanded by Robert
Napier later first Baron Napier of Magdala who has several pubs named after
him.
On 10 April 1955 (Easter Sunday)
Ruth Ellis, the last woman to be hanged in Britain, shot her boyfriend David Blakely as he left the Magdala. |
