The Prince Albert was situated
at 35 Talacre Road.
Known as the Rose of England at the time of demolition, this pub's address
was formerly 35 Weedington Road prior to street renaming. Closed c1995, this site is now
occupied by 1990s housing. |

My family lived
opposite at number 50 and were in the pub when the bomb hit it and took away
the upstairs. Apart from the landlady getting cuts from the broken bar
mirror there were no casualties. My father had just ordered a sherry and a
pint when the bomb hit. Afterwards the drinks were still intact if a little
dusty so dad blew the dust off and they drank them. |

My Great Uncle Philip
William Sprinz owned the Prince Albert Pub at 35 Weedingdon Rd, Kentish Town
in 1891. He would have been newly wed to my Grandfather’s sister, Jane
Wilkinson. Uncle Phil went on to become a barrister a few years later. He
would have been 26 years old, and Aunt Jane a girl of 18! |
