Torriano Arms

The Torriano Arms was situated at 140 Leighton Road.

My dad was a regular here, we'd often go after he picked me up from school about 100m metres down the road. I have glowing memories from there -- they made the best crepes, I still remember their specific taste to this day. We all loved the barman there, Scott -- that pub really made you feel at home.
It was alive, always had things going on downstairs (comedy, gigs, etc.), always played good music, the tiny bathrooms reeked of wee and the floors and tables were sticky and it was beautifully decorated: a gorgeous, real atmosphere. It had its own pub smell that I know would bring me right back if I got so much as a whiff even now. When my grandma and aunt came over, this is where we brought them.
That pub has a hell of a grip on my heart and childhood, as it does for so many others; ones with an unpolished, local and lively soul like that are hard to find! 9 year-old me was crushed to see it go because honestly, this place was nothing but happy memories.

Sally Stanley 1977 to closure My dad was a regular here. I can remember a function suite upstairs & I was quite young when I first went there for a function. Every new years eve/day my dad would come home with party hats & crackers.
