Don Allen 1945/1952 My uncle Alf Lipscombe was landlord in the late 1940's early 50's. I stayed there as a schoolboy from Gateshead during holidays. My best memory is when his daughter Joan married an American airman Jimmy Birdsong. The reception was in the upstairs function room. The pub really rocked to a live Airforce swing band which had everyone, including locals, jiving thru the night
Shaun Joinson 1970/1971 I was at nearby St Augustines School when this pub was used as the location for Richard Burton film Villain. I distinctly remember waiting with a big crowd outside the pub at the end of the school day until Richard Burton was bundled out by all his security and into a waiting car.
