Mitre Arms

The Mitre Arms was situated at 338 Tunnel Avenue. Since the 1980s this pub has been used as a nightclub.
Those of us fortunate enough to have been regulars at The Tunnel in the Mitre down on the peninsula , under the gasometers, during the eighties got to hear one of the true "characters", Malcolm Hardee ("the godfather of alternative comedy") and his introduction to the new acts ("This next act's probably a bit shit") most of whom went on to fame and fortune, or instant obscuity. The Tunnel Palladium gigs were legendary, and rightly so too..... but it didn’t help the Mitre much, and neither did the re-working of the roads around it. Everything changes.
