I grew up living directly opposite the Rouel Tavern, as I got older we, ( my brothers ) and I, played in the ruins of the pub which stood neglected for many years, it was a dangerous 'playground' but then most kids played on bomb sights, early 50s it stood at the crossroads with Rouel rd and Lucey rd and Yalding rd, one day whilst playing in the pub my eldest brother , who was balanced on a beam high up near the roof - lost his footing and grabbed an electric cable hanging from the ceiling- unfortunately it was live and he suffered some serious burns- fortunately he recovered but that was the end of our days playing in the pub- or faced our dads leather belt.
