My Grandfather Charles Arbury,was I
believe the last named landlord of this pub..He passed away in 1922 when my
father would have been aged 1...I am pretty sure that Charles' widow- jessie
may Arbury took over as the landlady and kept the pub going for some
time(certainly my dad grew up in a pub environment)...Jessie remarried a few
years later to a gentleman named Zillwood, who my father never much liked
and she passed away in the 1950's,so not sure how much longer she kept the
pub going...
My wife and I were in London last weekend so we checked out South st(present
day Dawes st),sadly there is now a block of flats on the site,grim..I do
remember when we were kids(1970's)that all the family visited London and my
dad went off to see where he grew up and the pub, sadly when he came back to
us,he reported that "it was all gone"....quite sad... |
