Harrow Inn

The Harrow Inn was situated at 500 Abbey Road. This 17th century grade-II listed pub closed in 2007 and was demolished in 2009.

My mother Doris May Harris born in 1914 at some time as a child lived at the Harrow, her mother Elsie Titchell may have managed the pub. She cared for her younger step brother Ken Titchell at the pub. My father, Richard Harris was employed as a cellarman, and at some time in the 30s they got married. I remember the stories they used to tell, of the fights between the gipsy’s that used to frequent the Harrow, and how the local bobby used to sort them out by throwing them into the street.
