The Rosemary Branch was situated at 263

It started life, probably as far back as the
17th Century, and in addition to being a public house, it was also a music
hall and a general place of entertainment. The first ascent of a balloon
from Peckham, took place from the grounds. I've discovered from a Map from
around 1895 that the pub was a lot bigger than the building shown in the
photo.
This has been backed up by me seeing a picture of a souvenir which was given
to patrons of the Rosemary Branch Hall described as being a Handsome
Billiard Saloon. So somewhere between 1895 and 1976, the building, or
perhaps just the Billiard Saloon, was demolished, as a post-war map shows a
row of houses where the Billiard Saloon would have been.. |
