Rosemary Branch

The Rosemary Branch was situated at 263 Southampton Way. This pub has now been demolished.

It started life, probably as far back as the 17th Century, and in addition to being a public house, it was also a music hall and a general place of entertainment. The first ascent of a balloon from Peckham, took place from the grounds. I've discovered from a Map from around 1895 that the pub was a lot bigger than the building shown in the photo.
This has been backed up by me seeing a picture of a souvenir which was given to patrons of the Rosemary Branch Hall described as being a Handsome Billiard Saloon. So somewhere between 1895 and 1976, the building, or perhaps just the Billiard Saloon, was demolished, as a post-war map shows a row of houses where the Billiard Saloon would have been..
