The Nags Head was situated at 205 York Road. This pub closed in 1987 has was demolished shortly afterwards.

I was watching a BBC programme last night on Guitar Greats and they mentioned that the band Free almost began their career by playing at the Nags Head in 1968.

I noted that a commenter mentioned The Nags Head’s connection to early blues/rock, i.e., Savoy Brown. In fact, The Nags Head was the locale for a tremendous amount of of early British blues. Many years ago I became friendly with Dave Peverett, formerly of Savoy Brown and Foghat. One day he was talking to my Dad, a WWII vet named Bill, and mentioned that he played frequently at The Nags Head when he was young (probably first with the Nocturnes). It turns out that my Dad frequented The Nags Head himself during the war. In fact he became close friends with the proprietor, Bill Russell, and he would stay over occasionally. I have in my possession a pewter mug given him by Mr. Russell bearing the legend: “To Bill - The Nags Head - 205 York Road - SW 11.” It is a small world indeed.

George Hammond	1960s	I used to drink & see bands regularly @ this venue & enjoyed every moment,, was mortified when I found it had been demolished, sadly I have no photos only memories. Amount those I saw were savoy brown {early days} duster Bennett & many others I can't recall
