The Watermans Arms was situated on Lonsdale
Road. This pub was built in 1850 and converted to restaurant use in the
1980s. A Watneys pub. |
This was my local back in the 1960s/70s. It was run by a
lovely lady called Bet Hennesy. She had several sons who used to help her
out and a lovely barmaid who's name escapes me. They both managed to deal
with the unruly and noisy louts that we were. Occasionally we would see
Phil Seaman the jazz drummer from the Bulls Head next door come in for a
pint between sets. He was usually three sheets to the wind but very good
company.
It was very well run, probably as it was close to Barnes Police Station
with many of the incumbents attending after their shift ended.
