In the early 1990s I used to dj at the
Tooting Gin Palace. We had a 60s and 70s night on a Tuesday. To try and
boost the crowd numbers the owners would sometimes book Capital Gold dj's to
work with me. I was amazed when Paul Burnett turned up one night and brought
no records with him ! I played all the tunes while he swanned around with a
radio Mic schmoozing the customers. And he got paid about ten times more
than me! Nice guy though so 30 years on I'm not bitter. |

I remember when it was the Fountain
Hotel (prior to gin Palace) there were monthly ballroom and Latin dance
competitions upstairs, promoted by Pam Maycock, there were regular
competitors (Pete and Jenny, Ken and Angie come to mind) and good times were
had but it did get very hot in the summer. In particular we had to go
downstairs to the main pub for liquid refreshments and as it was Sunday it
was full of bikers, it took some guts to go down there in our competition
dress but was always good humoured and we got the impression that if anybody
stepped out of line they would have been rapidly put in line by the others
in the bar. We stopped going when we started our family. Shame its gone.
