One of my earliest memories is of the Gun being
demolished. It had the lovely brown or reddish brown tiled walls. I vividly
remember one workman smashing the beautiful frosted windows with etched
writing. It was replaced by the rent office for the Churchill Garden’s
Estate.
I think it was called the Gun because Colt had a small firearms factory on
Grosvenor Road, sited just a little way past what is now called The
Grosvenor Pub (known since it was built as the Spread Eagle). The factory
might have been replaced on the site by the old London Hydraulic Company,
which I remember well as a kid. |
