Duchess Of Clarence

The Duchess Of Clarence was situated at 171 Vauxhall Bridge Road. This pub was demolished in 2002.
During the Chartist Movement (1838-1848) the movement submitted three National Petitions to the government demanding six principals of political reform including universal suffrage and the secret ballot. Copies of the first petition and signed petition sheets were held at various sites in the London including The Duchess of Clarence. From there petition sheets were collected and joined together in one long document that was presented to the government in July 1839.

Rosemary Sharpe 1980s Niece to late Jim and Mollie Kilmartin (owners). Good holidays spent there.
Dave 1994 This was our second trip to England. We stayed in Pimlico and frequented the pubs in the area. We enjoyed a pint or six in the Duchess of Clarence and wrote postcards to our friends and family in Canada. We met up with two men from Cork, Ireland. They said they liked Canada, but couldn't tolerate the winters. Me too, and I bloody live here!!! Sad to hear it is no longer.
Andy Johnston 1990s Lived in Pimlico, main meeting point for friends for many years. Went through a few merely moderate managers near the end but it was a hang out and a source of friendship that Pimlico now lacks. Very sad to see it go.
