The Kings Arms was situated at 114 Cheyne Walk. This pub closed in the late 1980s.

My great-grandfather. Walter John Gargrave, a Master Window Cleaner died following a fall from an upstairs window onto the pavement on Tuesday 31st May 1927 whilst in the course of his work. His injuries, from a fall of 15 feet were in the words of the licensed victualler, Charles Leapher 'the most extensive injuries he had ever seen from a fall';

On 8 August 1914, my grandfather, William Arthur Montellier, joined the Army at the Duke of Yorks Regimental HQ in Chelsea and gave his address as 114 Cheyne Walk, so clearly he was living over the pub at the time. This chimes with his father's occupation of wine cellarman, his father being James May Montellier. I've got no further information about the family's time there - the next record is my grandfather's wedding in 1926 by which time he was living in Sydney Street, to the north of the King's Road. However, his bride had been born and spent her youth in Luna Street, which lay very close to the King's Arms in the area now covered by the Cremorne Estate. I've walked past the former pub a number of times in the hope that I might encounter one of the occupants and sneak a look upstairs at where Grandpa Bill packed his bags to go to war that morning in 1914...
