Shuckburgh Arms

The Shuckburgh Arms was situated at 47 Denyer Street. Briefly called Finnegan's Wake, it is now a branch of Baker and Spice.

A very busy pub good for pool, music and singalongs, but didn't stop it from closing. Now some sort of delicatessen.
Robbie Paterson (August 2012)

I have fond memories of working & living here 1986 & 1987 - all female New Zealand & Australian bar staff, jukebox in the corner belting out ‘80’s bangers, crazy busy (4-5 deep at bar). They employed NZ & Aus staff largely because of clientele (Sloane Rangers, Hooray Henry’s) as there were no class issues.

Mary Bacci (West) 1989 Worked here for a few months with my friend Sharon Baker. Had a really good time.
Simon McDermott 2001 onwards I was the landlord here; had a fantastic crew. Many South Africans Kristoffel, Danie, Ricard, & Dan aka Snowy
Patricia Coffey 1955-1964 customer - my flats are in the background of the photo - my dad's local. His name was george west and he was a bit difficult I believe - he used it from 1946 onwards until I guess the 1980s or when ever it closed. I moved to australia in the 1970's - so sorry to hear it has closed a I thought it was listed -part of my younger life !!!
Peter Eaves 1964-1970 I was a customer along with my Wiltshire Close neighbors. I also worked behind the bar for about a year. The publicans were Bert and Mary Hargreaves. They had a daughter Pat whose husband was Dennis. Best pub in Chelsea until it was run down a few years later. Too bad it went the way of so many locals.
Nina Macdonald 1974/1980 My parents were the landlords Rob and Sadie Macdonald. Loved living in Chelsea, we moved to the Cleveland Arms in Paddington after leaving this pub. I remember the tunnels under the roads in the cellar. The accommodation Upstairs was quite run down but big rooms. Customers were good fun and some real characters. Our dog even got in the paper (Sunday People) for taking lady customers home after hours.
Peter Wright 1970/1983 I was a customer. Vanda Stiglic was the landlord. It was a wonderful pub.
