My brother, sister and I took part in a charity London to Brighton sponsored walk in 1982 or 83, organised by the Bank of Swans pub. We set off any 8 or 9am from the outskirts of Croydon and my brother, about 16 or 17 at the time, was the first to reach the destination pub in the outskirts of Brighton at about 5pm. I made it about 6pm.  No idea how we got involved as it wasn't our nearest pub (that would have been the Windmill in Clapham Common) but we did drink there sometimes. Might have been through another local, Malcolm Hughes.
