When briefly stationed at the nearby
Hyde Park Barracks in 1986, this was our local. From what I remember (that
period of my 20s is a little vague in places - I blame the air pollution
which I was exposed to every night on the way to the pub) the majority of
the staff were Antipodean, as was the trend in London at the time. A bunch
of us went with some of the Oz/Kiwi staff to see Crocodile Dundee at
Leicester Sq Odeon. I was told by soldier friends who were at Hyde Park Bks
when the pub shut, that it was bought by a group of local residents who
didn't want a pub frequented by soldiers in their square. This may of course
be apocryphal. |
