The New Portland Arms was situated at 256
Wandsworth Road. This
used to be a Wenlock Brewery pub and still has some Wenlock insignia
displayed. The Wenlock brewery in North London was taken over and closed
down by Bass in 1962. |

My parents opened the new Portland Arms in 1968 as the
publicans. They were there until 1972 and we enjoyed living in the great
community.Happy memories! What happened to the pub- it wasn’t closed
when? What happened to the beautiful mural on the back wall of saloon
bar- it showed a map of River Thames with surrounding buildings. |
