The Coach & Horses was situated at 25-29
Chiswick High Road.. This pub closed in 1992 and was demolished c2012 to be
replaced by the facsimile building shown in the above photograph. |

My dad, Bob Walker, owned White City
Plastering Contractors. He created the interior of the pub and the coach
outside. I worked on it with him in my holidays. There was a large chain
hanging down into the water below. The chain, like most of the interior, was
made of fibrous plaster. Which came as a bit of a surprise for the person
who tried to climb down it! Dad is still alive and is100 this December,
2022. |

I remember this pub as Nacho's Mexican
restaurant when I lived in Chiswick in the late 90's. The restaurant was
upstairs and the basement was used as a club at weekends and attracted a
younger crowd than my group of friends. In 1997, the basement was taken over
on a Tuesday night by local musician Tim Whittaker who ran a series of
musical events in different West London pubs under the banner, 'Acoustic
Revolution' (including The John Bull at Gunnersbury, Fouberts Wine Bar on
Chiswick High Road, The White Hart on King Street and The Central Bar at
Acton Railway Station at various times over the following two years). It was
a great night of music and a good place to hang out. There were guest
performers and a headline act but not like these 'open mic' events of today,
this was a far slicker and more professional operation. Thanks for clearing
up a mystery surrounding the rebuild. I went back to Chiswick in 2012 for
the first time in 12 years and was shocked to see that the building had been
demolished. Fast forward two years later and I thought my memory was playing
tricks with me because it seemed to have reappeared! |

I liked this pub and visited with a friend in the 1970's
when I lived in London. I remember it had a life sized coach on the
balcony outside which was lit up and a stream going through the pub.
Such a shame it is now closed. On one occasion I visited the pub with a
friend and Tommy Cooper was sat yards from us and my friend asked him
for his autograph! such good memories! |

Played there for a few years in an
Organ & Drums Duo. As part of the deal we got a free meal and a few
beers each night! Lots of celebs drank there as it was fairly close to
the BBC. The Manager was an ex-cop called John, followed by a chap
called Wilf. Lots of Aussie staff worked there. |
