The Windmill

The Windmill was situated at 214 Chiswick High Road. The pub was rebuilt in 1900 and demolished in 1964. An office block was built on the site with the pub on the ground floor. It was re-named Jack Stamp’s Beer House in the 1990s, which closed in 2005.

In the late 1960s I lived in digs in Devonshire Road and used a number of pubs, this being one of them. On several occasions Tommy Cooper and his wife were in there and he asked me over and I was fortunate to talk to them on several occasions. He wanted to know what I did, I was studying civil engineering. I was in my late teens at this time. He was generally fairly subdued but drank a number of large whiskies and didn’t really want to talk with the customers.

Sarah 1985 My dad and his wife used to frequent this pub every Saturday in the mid 1980s. Sometimes we were allowed in, but other times my twin sister and I had to wait in the car in the car park with a bottle of coke and a packet of crisps! My dad was an Irish man called Michael John. Anyone remember him?
Amanda Belcham 1985 My sister, Sherrie who has recently died was a member of the ladies darts team and made many good friends during these times.
