Red Lion

The Red Lion was situated at 149 Boston Road, closing in 2006.

Back in around 1976/77ish, I made, along with two colleagues, the fibre glass Red Lion above the pub entrance and the one on the side wall. We were 3 art students from Hornsey College of Art, me, Dave Hoskin and David Heasman. It was made in Streatham and transported and installed by the 3 of use working freelance for Courages Brewery. Our contact at the brewery was another ex-Hornsey student working for Courage’s Design Dept. We were also part of the pub's re-furbishment team at the time, installing pictures and painting the interior. I was from Ealing and passed this pub on a regular basis and was always surprised to seen the Lion was still there and hadn’t fallen off.
