The Albion Tavern was situated on Russell Street. This pub opened in 1829. The current Fortune Theatre was built on the site of this former public house between 1922 and 1924, opening on August 8, 1924 as the Fortune Thriller Theatre. In its heyday, the public house was frequented by Georgian and Victorian actors.
